Sari Blakeley is a PhD student in the Geography Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, studying human-environment interactions between decadal variability in West Africa and farmer risk management strategies. Her undergraduate degree is from Michigan State University in Economics, International Studies and French in 2010, and completed her masters at Columbia University in Climate and Society in 2012. She worked several years at the International Research Institute for Climate and Society with Dr. Daniel Osgood on index insurance and risk management in West Africa. Her current work focuses on Senegal and how future variability can be accounted for through savings, insurance, and community funds.
