John Sutton uses an innovative modeling approach to explore trends in incarceration across Western democracies

John Sutton (Professor of Sociology and Broom Research Associate) uses an innovative modeling approach to explore trends in incarceration across Western democracies. Results link cross-national variability in incarceration rates to differences in unionization, labor market structures, and political systems. An article describing this research, "The Transformation of Prison Regimes in Late Capitalist Societies," appears in the latest issue of the American Journal of Sociology (2014, Vol. 19, No. 3:715-46).
